Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
