Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
