Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer added to England's injury problems after leaving the playing area early on day two in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his hamstring post-delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the series at the SCG begins this coming Sunday.

England have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 as a batsman being one of only three teammates who passed ten runs.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of that over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match after being left out of the third.
