Former Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Legal authorities have announced that a ex- physician has been charged with committing sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.

One senior prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

The charging documents outline the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
