Across the fiercely contested world of gaming, it's common for emerging rivals to vanish as swiftly as they burst on to the landscape.
However the latest Battlefield is striving to change that.
This is the newest release in a long-standing combat FPS line frequently described as a more realistic alternative to Call of Duty.
The franchise has not quite managed to equal its most famous competitor in terms of revenue or user base, but evidence points to the latest version could close the gap.
A preview weekend giving players a opportunity to try out the game not long ago set new benchmarks, and the excitement heading into its debut has been massive.
However the project is nonetheless a big gamble for developer Electronic Arts, which has according to sources invested huge sums of funds producing it.

The Guildford team design director Fas Salim is the one tasked with "guaranteeing those missions are as enjoyable and engaging as possible for the audience."
Regardless of claims that the scope of the game had created pressure for the different studios working together internationally to develop the title, Fas is optimistic about the process.
"Working with diverse perspectives, different backgrounds, it's a truly interesting environment to be engaged with every day," he explains.
"This entire method has been a fresh take but additionally really exciting because we are collaborating with team members from all over the world."
As for the anticipation on the developers, the director comments: "We feel pressure but also it's thrilling.
"It's a large undertaking. It's arguably the biggest that most of us have previously participated in."
Emerging Talent Brings New View

"Understanding that I've put my personal touch into the project is very dreamlike."
