Supporters Demand Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are urging that a individual who jumped a barricade and touched the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents indicated that he was due to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features recordings of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others called for online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, winning several for outstanding attire and production design.
